The Black Diamond Express

Going to a Black Diamond Express gig feels like being thrown back in time, to an era when the likes of Capone and Ness roamed the streets and people crammed into tiny secret venues, drinking illegal liquor and listened to music of matter.

I have had the pleasure of seeing this Edinburgh based band live on two different occasions and now consider myself a bona fide admirer of their blues and country infused music and Depression Era inspired performances.

WHY? not be sassy this Easter

Yes... Why? not.

Why? - Alopecia

What? Dunno really. I guess I'd tag it as experimental indie rap hip hop, but then again I'm lousy with tags. You listen to it and make your own bloody tags.

Why do I like Why? Well, cause they make me laugh. Nothing wrong with that. Plus, they sound like nothing I got in my stash right now. Alopecia is new (duh), fresh, different and sure, a little explicit.

And as a non believer of love, I do however believe in people's love of the new. Therefore, I love Why? Yup, I'm a junkie of the current. Sue me.

So check out Why? and let them bring out the sass in you. You know you want to. And why not start out with track 2: titled Good Friday, it being Easter and all. (Warning: EXPLICITNESS and no Easter Bunny)

Also, the lyrics AWARD goes to: Even though I haven't seen you in years, yours is a funeral I'd fly to from anywhere.
- track 3, Alopecia,These Few Presidents

Kinda cute.

AND.

While you're at it, checking out the new the new the new, go the extra mile and get your hands on some Plants and Animals as well. Their new album, Parc Avenue, is well worth the rummage.

That's that, Short and sweet.

Rainbows & Unicorns

Lately I have been more prone to stock up on tunes I refer to as "Rainbow & Unicorn music". The term explains itself. Non?

It's simple really.

Just plain happy music, perfect for those hollow minded days, where you just want to lick a lolly and write love letters with Crayons and slather glitterglue all over them (and yourself).

Simple minds, simple pleasures.

And my favorite "Rainbow & Unicorn music" du jour is The Bird and the Bee. I'm, diggin'em as their tunes sound so "Holly Golightly-happy go lucky"… BUT like Holly herself on closer inspection, these jolly tunes have a more serious undertone as some of their titles might suggest.

Titles such as, Fucking Boyfriend (a personal favorite), I Hate Camera and I'm A Broken Heart.

Yup, Popsicles melt and The Bird and the Bee capture those bittersweet moments quite well.

But it's still "Rainbow & Unicorn music".

And if you'd like to expand your "Rainbow & Unicorn music" taste, check out:

All Girl Summer Fun Band for some Jason Lee,
Annie for some Chewing Gum
Candie Payne for some Take Me
The Ting Tings for some Great DJ

and

Yelle for some Jogging (to be pronounced with Anchorman-emphasis)

Then there are the ol'classics:

Jens Lekman, Rilo Kiley and Chromeo - bound to provide anyone with some sweet release, be it on the dancefloor, on the couch or in bed. (Even on a carpet by the door.)

Rilo Kiley - Silver Lining

Try as well = The Whitest Boy Alive and The Boy Least Likely To.
They are slightly more heavyweight, and yet their melodies go down well with a nice chilled glass of Kool-Aid.

Happy!

The Boy Least Likey To - Warm Panda Cola

So ride bareback on that unicorn and touch the rainbow. It's alright to want to.

(Just remember that rainbows can't be reached and unicorns don't really exist)

((My bad))
